Just the facts:
Giggles, Cheers, and Laughter
|
Fact one: It doesn't take much to call one’s self a magician. When someone learns to play "Chopsticks" on a piano they don't call themselves a musician, but the second someone learns a trick or two they suddenly print up business cards and start calling themselves a magician. And that brings us to: Fact two: A great children's magician knows that the ride is far more important than the destination. That means that they understand that the tricks are not the most important part of the show; the performance is. The truth is that kids, like you, really don’t like to be fooled. A great children's magician knows this. Fooling kids makes them feel dumb. So it's best to judge the quality of a children's performer on the giggles and laughter, the cheers and participation of the audience, and the ability to control a large audience and not the just the fooling aspect of a trick. Fact three: You're hiring a professional entertainer. Not a trunk full of tricks. Many children’s entertainers rely on the “old standards”. Stale old tricks that are in far too many a mediocre entertainers repertoire. A great Children’s Magician too might have a few of these classics in their performance as well, but their presentations for them are contemporary and unique. Plus a Great Children’s magician will feature many of their own unique, original and never before seen tricks and routines in their presentations. Fact four: An understanding of child psychology, advanced audience management skills, basic theater skills, as well as a knowledge of what is age appropriate material and a level of approachability are critical tools that every quality children's performer needs in their bag of tricks! |
